Hidden Moving Fees in Singapore

An ad for "$288 per truck" sounds like a deal. Often it's a starting price with everything that actually moves your furniture charged as an add-on afterward.

What Gets Left Out of Lowball Quotes

  • Manpower. Only the truck is included; loading and unloading cost extra.
  • Stairs or no lift access. An additional SGD 10-30 per floor is common.
  • Dismantling and reassembly. Beds, cabinets and tables are often not included.
  • Packing materials. Boxes, stretch film and bubble wrap billed separately.
  • Waiting time. Delays get charged per 30 minutes.

How This Adds Up

A "$288 truck" booking can turn into: SGD 60 for manpower, SGD 80 for dismantling, SGD 40 for bubble wrap, SGD 100 for a long carry, and SGD 100 for a two-floor staircase surcharge. Total: SGD 668, more than double the advertised rate.

Questions to Ask Before Booking Any Mover

  1. Is manpower included in the quote?
  2. Are there staircase or lift-access surcharges?
  3. Will I be charged for packing materials?
  4. What's the cost for dismantling and reassembly?
  5. Is there a charge for long carry distances or waiting time?

What to Look For in Reviews

Scan for phrases like "surprise charges", "didn't mention", or "extra fees on moving day". These are signs a quote isn't the final price.
