Moving Checklist
A short list of what actually prevents a move from going wrong, gathered from the questions that come up most.
Before You Book
- Get a full written quote covering manpower, transport, stairs and materials, not just a "from $X" headline price
- Ask if packing, dismantling and reassembly are included or extra
- Check reviews for mentions of surprise charges or unclear communication
- Confirm your building's moving hour rules, especially for condos (see our condo moving guide)
- If your dates don't line up, ask about storage rather than booking two separate jobs
Common Ways Moves Go Wrong
- Unrealistically low quotes that add stairs, manpower or bulky-item charges afterward
- Poor handling from untrained or unlicensed crews
- No clear communication, leading to late arrivals or confused scope on the day
See our guide to hidden fees for the specific line items to watch for.
Timing Your Move
- Weekends and month-end dates see higher demand; book early if your date isn't flexible
- If you're between a resale flat's offer and completion, or waiting on a BTO key collection, book your mover once dates are confirmed rather than provisionally, since availability tightens close to popular dates
- Downsizing or decluttering before a move takes longer than expected; start sorting before you get a quote, not after
On Moving Day
- Confirm access: lift booking, loading bay, parking, and any permit or deposit receipt
- Walk the crew through what's fragile, what's being dismantled, and what's not going to the new address
- Keep essentials (documents, chargers, medication) with you rather than in the truck
