10ft vs 14ft Lorry: A Simple Guide

Book a lorry too small and you're paying for a second trip. Book one too big and you're paying for space you never use. Here's how to tell which you need.

The Two Common Sizes

• 10ft lorry: roughly 10ft long, 5.5ft wide, 6ft high
• 14ft lorry: roughly 14ft long, 6.5ft wide, 6.5ft high

The extra width and height matter more than the length alone: they add real stacking space, not just a longer bed.

What Fits a 10ft Lorry

Studio apartments, 1-room or 2-room HDB flats, or a partial move:

• 15 to 20 medium boxes
• A queen or single bed frame and mattress
• A 2-seater sofa
• A study table and chair
• A small wardrobe or shelving unit
• Small appliances (microwave, fan, small TV)

What Fits a 14ft Lorry

3-room to 4-room HDB flats, or a condo unit with a fuller set of furniture:

• 30 to 40 medium boxes
• A queen or king bed frame, mattress and headboard
• A 3-seater sofa or sofa set
• A dining table with 4-6 chairs
• A wardrobe or two, plus shelving
• Major appliances: washing machine, fridge, TV console

Quick Rule of Thumb

• Under 20 boxes plus 2 large furniture pieces: 10ft lorry likely works
• 20 to 40 boxes plus several large pieces: go with 14ft
• More than that, or bulky items like a piano or multiple wardrobes: you may need two trips, or a bigger lorry
